Asian Groove

The contemporary side of Asian music is the focus of this compilation of ethnic fusionists from Putumayo. Tabla thumps intermingle with bass guitar, down and dirty, street smart grooves accent Indian classical passages and electronic beats and atmospherics color passages seeped in Himalayan tradition. Even American pop music shows its face (Bally Jagpal's "Pheli War" samples lyrics from the Destiny's Child song "Say My Name"). It's all characteristic of the highly experimental, rhythmic melting pot that is modern Indian music. From Bhangra to Bollywood film music, this funkadelic fusion recording features artists like Susheela Raman, Deepak Ram, Bally Sagoo, Dr. Didg and Mo' Horizons, who are broadening the horizons of Asian music.
